Neurological examination revealed intranuclear ophthalmoplegia, vertical nystagmus and ataxic gait. CT scan showed hyperdense haemorrhagic lesion in the fourth ventricle (figure 1) and MRI further demonstrated a large focus of haemorrhage in the posterior pons and surrounding oedema with two small foci of enhancement along the anterior margin of the mass (figure 2). Craniotomy was performed for evacuation of the haemorrhage and

Assessment of Micro-vessel Density in Brain Glioma by CD105 Expression

Background& Objective: Micro-vascular proliferation is an important histological feature of brain glioma with more vascular proliferation is present in higher grades of glioma. CD 105 is expressed in new actively proliferating and immature endothelial cells in tumor environment  and appears to be capable to distinguish between malignant neo-vasculature and normal vesse...

Difficult diagnosis of brainstem glioblastoma multiforme in a woman: a case report and review of the literature

INTRODUCTION Brainstem gliomas are rare in adults. They most commonly occur in the pons and are most likely to be high-grade lesions. The diagnosis of a high-grade brainstem glioma is usually reached due to the presentation of rapidly progressing brainstem, cranial nerve and cerebellar symptoms. These symptoms do, however, overlap with a variety of other central nervous system disorders. Magnet...

Expression of Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) in Brain Glioma and its Correlation with Tumor Grade

Background & Objective Angiogenesis is an essential component of tumor growth. Expression of PSMA on the neo-vasculature of many solid tumors, including glioblastoma multi-form, has been determined. The pattern of expression suggests that PSMA may play a functional role in angiogenesis. Methods: expression of PSMA in dif...

Automatic segmentation of glioma tumors from BraTS 2018 challenge dataset using a 2D U-Net network

Background: Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor, and early detection of tumors is important in the treatment planning for the patient. The precise segmentation of the tumor and intratumoral areas on the MRI by a radiologist is the first step in the diagnosis, which, in addition to the consuming time, can also receive different diagnoses from different physicians. The aim of this study...

Diffuse brainstem glioma: prognostic factors.

OBJECT Brainstem gliomas were regarded as a single entity prior to the advent of MRI; however, several studies investigating MRI have recognized that these lesions are a heterogeneous group, and certain subgroups have a better prognosis for long-term survival. The aim of this study was to conduct a retrospective analysis of prognostic factors of patients with brainstem gliomas confirmed by hist...
